It's a real shame our leaders of independent Congo don't show the same concerns for their fellow citizens as King Leopold III showed did for his subjects... Incredibly, I once saw an article that was trying to slander Leopold, as usual, as the "pro-Nazi" etc., dredging up all the old charges, and even trying to insinuate that his interest in exploration and indigenous peoples was really based on some Nazi racial idea...what appalling character assassination!Mayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18230268418171628594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5666114716955489883.post-48957899248436414172009-10-16T02:24:39.200-04:002009-10-16T02:24:39.200-04:00Thank you much for this information. I don't think many people realize that even going on such a trip took some courage back then. Disease was so widespread you were really taking your life in your hands to go on a trek across the Congo like that. Very fascinating to see Leopold's thoughts, he seems to have had a very realistic grasp of things, a view of the good and the bad in a situation that is today grossly simplified. Thanks again for this post.MadMonarchisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08083008336883267870noreply@blogger.com
