A 20th Century Princess

 In an interesting article, published in the New York Times in 1911, Princess Henriette of Belgium, the Duchess of Vendome, discussed the challenges and dangers facing women around the turn of the 20th century, with a special focus on the women of her adopted country, France. As in her commentary on the life of her great-grandmother, Marie-Amélie of Naples, Henriette appears highly intellectual and deeply conservative. Nonetheless, I do not think that her prediction that feminism would not attract much of a following in France has proved accurate.
