Gabrielle de Polignac
As we've been discussing maligned ladies of the past, readers might be interested in this thoughtful and sympathetic reassessment of Marie-Antoinette's beautiful, beloved but controversial best friend.
Elena Maria's article is brilliant. I remember reading the introduction to Anne de Courcy's biography of Lady Diana Mosley, in which she said exceptional beauty always defines its owner's life. And I thought of Gabrielle de Polignac when I read that.
What a wonderful article - thank you for the link to it. I wonder why some people feel a need to destroy rather than admire what is beautiful in others....
