The Perils of a Modern Monarch
Hardly breaking news at this point, but, as we are discussing the Belgian royals' Luxembourg cousins, I wanted to revisit Grand Duke Henri's role in last year's euthanasia crisis. When a society has departed so far from its religious and moral traditions, what is a Catholic monarch to do? Resist? Abdicate?

I was glad the Grand Duke opposed it, regardless of whether or not he lost power, though I was a little disappointed at his seeming welcome to the loss of royal power (though this may have been simple expediency). Reading the article I couldn't help but notice that the "Green Party" supported the legislation. Odd how they seem so dedicated to preserving the "natural way" when it comes to plants and animals but go in the complete opposite direction when dealing with people.

Resist til the end and defend those values no matter what. If God put you in that place (which does not means that he is there by divine right) then it's your duty to Him and to your subjects to defend, protect and promote those values. A monarch should do his best to make that life on Earth is such that will make his subjects prepared to go to Heaven. This means educating them with good morals, values and promoting religion. Since when Parliament's will can't be contested? Why having a monarch then if you will not allow him to perform his constitutional duties? The hypocrisy behind the euthanasia issue in Luxembourg is incredible.
